Same sex marriage is still a subject surrounded by much discussion and controversy, although not as much as by the time it was first seriously proposed to society, in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. Today, there are only five countries in the world where civil same sex marriage is legally accepted and supported: Netherlands, Belgium, South Africa, Canada and Spain, which was the latest country to make same sex marriage legal. In Canada, however, some jurisdictions still consider the subject on court before approving the union.
When it comes to religious unions, same sex marriage becomes an even more controversial and complex. Although most religions disapprove same sex marriage, it is increasingly becoming more accepted for some Churches and a few religions such as Reform Judaism. One of the main points on the speech of most religions against the union of two people from the same sex is that the fundamental purpose of a marriage is to create a procreative parentship. Such concept it’s also controversial if we keep in mind that many governments in the world encourage or even offer advantages for couples to help with the fight against overpopulation.
Currently, the biggest fight is not only to make same sex marriages legal and morally accepted, but also to allow already established couples to adopt children. Although some people and organizations consider the adoption of children as of the providing of reproductive technologies for same sex couples morally wrong, those same people don’t perceive this as being a considerable increase on the number of adoptions. It is also proved that a children growing in such environment has plenty of conditions of undergoing a completely healthy development, although it is unfortunately bound to face some prejudice and biased concepts on his school and among friends and acquaintances.
Same sex marriage is also a subject which involves several legal, financial and political matters. Unfortunately, there’s a strong battle of interests before it could be legalized and openly accepted throughout the world.
Our thoughts? Well, live and let live. Who are they hurting? All we ever hear about is the bible and how it's against Gods law for people of the same sex to be married or to be together at all for that matter. Was anyone there when this was written, and if the original bible was written in stone who's to say that part of what was written wasn't worn and the worn part misread?
We don't want to get into the whole Bible stuff, but that seems to be the only thing anyone can say as to why gays shouldn't be allowed to marry or have a relationship. Men seem to be fine with two women together but when it comes to two men they get all freaked. Hey, the guys aren't asking you to get with them, give them a break they have every right to love or have sex with whoever they want,
